SDL Chat Translator Guidelines

These few simple tips for using the SDL Chat Translator will help you get most from this tool when speaking to a buddy in a foreign language.

The translations you send in the foreign language will not always be grammatically perfect but will be understandable.

Remember you are talking to someone in real time and you can immediately tell your buddy you don't understand something, or they can tell you the same. The misunderstood sentence can then be rephrased.

Here are the tips:

  • Try to keep your sentences short.
  • Try not to use abbreviations.
  • Check your text for spelling mistakes before sending it. Badly spelt words will not be translated.
  • If you don't understand what your buddy has said, ask them to "Please rephrase your last sentence".
  • If you ask a question, remember to put a question mark at the end.

Have fun using the SDL Chat Translator. Please let us know of any life changing experiences you have had because you can now chat to someone in a foreign language.
